Cards news: Dec. 23 -- RHP David Bednar re-acquired in rule 5 draft
The St. Louis Cardinals have selected right-handed relief pitcher David Bednar in the first-round of the Rule 5 draft.
The Cardinals originally acquired Bednar in a md-season trade with the Houston Astros.
But later traded him to Detroit when the team fell out of playoff contention.
With the Cardinals, he appeared in 18 games going 1-1 with seven saves and a 1.00 ERA.
During his time with the Tigers, he pitched in 13 games going 1-0 with four saves and a 1.35 ERA.
The 33-year-old Bednar broke into the majors in 2019 with San Diego.
Since that time, he has pitched with the Padres, Pirates, Astros and Tigers.
Overall, he has pitched in 418 games going 26-31 with 171 saves and a 3.14 ERA.
