by Evan Guy

Victory, Quartz Lead as Season Nears End

With just 14 games remaining on the season, the Victory Cave Crickets and Quartz Star Force each have six-game leads and a Magic # of 9. The Cave Crickets last won their division in 2314, leading to their fifth Nuka Series title in five tries (2302, 2304, 2309, 2310, and 2314). The Star Force last appeared in the Nuka Series in 2303. They won their only championship in their previous appearance, the NWL's debut season of 2299.

The Nuka World League has given Roz McBerger the Batter of the Month Award.

In July, the Quartz first baseman starred with a .386 batting average, 9 home runs and 23 RBIs. McBerger also had 12 walks, posted a .461 on-base percentage and scored 19 times.

Currently McBerger has 15 home runs and a .377 batting average.

A 5-0 record with a 2.60 ERA is a good month for most any pitcher. The Nuka World League thought it was worthy of an award and named Kory DiLeva, starter for the Grape Painted Ghouls, July's Pitcher of the Month.

He also held the opposition to a .255 average while posting 31 strikeouts in 52 innings.

For the season, DiLeva has compiled a 10-5 record with a 3.46 ERA.

Last month was a very good one for Jackie Jones of Quantum. So good that he has been picked as the Rookie of the Month in the Nuka World League.

Jones throttled league hitters the entire month, rounding out July with an impressive 3-0 mark and 0.92 ERA in 4 starts with 16 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.

This year, Jones has compiled a 3-0 mark with a 2.01 ERA.

In the Amusement Park League, the Red Rocket Radrats and Junkyard Space Cadets are tied at 28-18 in the North Division. In the South Division, the Dunmore Ferris Wheels have a four-game lead over the Grandchester Flying Ants and a Magic # of 11.

For a rookie just breaking in, Penguin Blackwell certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the APL Batter of the Month award for July.

The 24-year-old center fielder for the Galactic Zone G-Force hit .397 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Hitting .325 to date, Blackwell has 5 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has played in 45 games.

Following one of the brightest stretches in his career, the Amusement Park League awarded Galactic Zone reliever Archie Hicox July's Pitcher of the Month trophy.

He was mesmerizing as he held opponents to a .077 batting average and put together a 3-0 mark, 3 saves, 5 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA during his 8 innings of work.

To this point in the year Hicox has put up a 5-0 won-lost mark, made 13 relief appearances and rung up 4 saves. He has a 0.00 ERA and has allowed 6 hits over his 12.1 innings of work, struck out 7 batters and walked 4.

Dalton Farm Near Division Title, Harbor Division Still Up for Grabs

The Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers hhave a 10-game Fog Division lead, leading both the National Park Gulpers and Echo Lake Harbormen by 10 games with 14 to play. Their Magic # is 5. In the Harbor Division, both the Grand Hotel Atoms and Acadia Acadians are tied at 39-37 with Far Harbor just three back at 36-40. Cranberry Island, predicted to win the Harbor Division, is in 4th place and possesses the Vim! League's worst record at 33-43.

Tick Garrett has a lot going for him. The Dalton Farm first baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the Vim! League has just picked him as its top hitter for July.

In 26 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .485 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

This year, Garrett is batting .459 with 50 hits, 13 home runs, 42 RBIs, 17 walks, .535 OBP and has scored 34 runs.

Veteran Bout Nielsen put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Grand Hotel Atoms, earning himself the Vim! League Pitcher of the Month award.

Nielsen racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.90 ERA over 47.1 innings and striking out 28.

On the season, Nielsen has compiled a 7-3 mark with a 3.00 ERA in 11 starts. In pitching 81 innings he has 45 strikeouts and 26 walks while limiting the opposition to a .252 batting average.

When it came to hitting the baseball, Tick Garrett had few peers in the Vim! League last month. The gifted first baseman for Dalton Farm tagged opposing pitchers for a .485 average and was voted the Rookie of the Month for July.

Included in his stats were 50 hits, 13 homers, 33 runs scored and 42 RBIs.

Thus far this season, Garrett has hit .459 with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and scored 34 times.

In the Mount Desert Island League, division races are still tight enough to keep Magic #s in the double digits with 14 to play. In the Small Bertha Division, the Rock Point Barnacles lead the Cliff's Edge Actors by four games. In the Old Longfellow Division, the MS Azalea Shipwrecks lead the Rayburn Point Patcheyes by two games. The Shipwrecks are seeking their fourth-straight division title.

It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 24 Peekaboo Leach has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Haddock Cove Engineers star can enjoy the numbers he put up in July, which have garnered him the nod as the Mount Desert Island League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .352 average with 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

A look at his current stats shows Leach with a .352 average, 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has played in 15 games.

Gaius Mohlam of the Cliff's Edge Actors is in the spotlight today. The bullpen ace was named the #1 pitcher in the Mount Desert Island League for July.

He compiled a 1-0 record and an ERA of 0.71 in 12.2 innings with 13 strikeouts. Mohlam nailed down 7 saves in 7 save opportunities.

So far this year, Mohlam has 9 saves in 22 relief appearances with a 3-1 mark and 0.70 ERA.
