Cards news: May 12 -- Knee injury will put catcher Jimmy Crooks on IL
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed catcher Jimmy Crooks on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a knee injury on a hit by pitch during a 5-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on May 11.
In first season as a full-time starter, Crooks was off to an impressive start hitting .306 with four home runs and 14 RBIs over his first 30/29 starts of the season.
Crooks, 26, is expected to be ready to return to action when he is eligible to return from the IL.
Getting called up to the majors is 31-year-old Nick Fortes.
In 29 games at Memphis this season, he has hit .220 with six RBIs.
Fortes has 304/250 starts worth of major league experience with Miami between 2021 and 2024.
He is a career .222 hitting with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs.
