Rockies Post First Spring Training Win

Game Recap: Rockies Triumph 3-2 over Phillies
The Rockies' inaugural spring training win was a true team effort, with the pitching staff leading the way. Newly acquired pitcher Terry Mulholland set the tone, delivering a fantastic performance in his start. He tossed 4 shutout innings, giving up just 2 hits and no walks, showcasing the kind of control and poise the front office has hoped for. The bullpen handled the rest, with Bryan Wolff earning the win and Dave Burba picking up the save to seal the victory.

On the offensive side, the Rockies scraped together just enough runs to secure the win. B.J. Surhoff laced a double, while Pat Listach delivered a key RBI. Lance Johnson also showcased his speed with a stolen base, a sign of what's to come from the fleet-footed outfielder. The Phillies' only runs came on a two-run home run by Ricky Jackson in the 7th inning.

"Mile High Mike" O'Connell's Take: A Win, A Scare, and a Warning
"Mile High Mike" O'Connell: "They did it! They got the first win! A 'W'! Let me tell you, that's a good looking box score. Mulholland, the guy we traded for, he was money! For shutout innings, just what you want to see. This guy is a pro. The bullpen held on, and Burba gets the save! The kids are alright, folks! The kids are alright!

"But...but...now for the bad news. We heard reports that a couple of our pitchers, Willis Roberts and Sterling Hitchcock, had to leave the game with injuries. You've got to hope it's nothing serious. You just get this team together, and then something like this happens. It's a reminder that this is a long season, and you need to be deep. Thorne better have some more aces up his sleave if we're going to get through this. It's a great win, but we've got to keep an eye on those injuries."
