Marathon Game Won by Grizzlies,5-4, in 17 Innings

Ignacio Benavides did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Montreal Expos from being beaten, 5-4, to the Philadelphia Grizzlies at Olympic Stadium. Benavides was 4-7 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. He is batting .271-+16-56 .748OPS 94R 15/22SB 1.7WAR in 151 games.

The winner was Philadelphia reliever Colin Taylor, now 3-0. The loser was Kevin Cowden. With this game in the books, Philadelphia is 80-78, Montreal 95-62.

Philadelphia needed the clutch hitting of Danny Rangel to seal the deal. The designated hitter swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the 17th inning to put the Grizzlies on top, 5-3. For the game, Rangel had 1 home run and 2 singles in 8 at-bats.

"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Philadelphia manager Pat Pierce.

Expos Win Final Home Game 3-1, Behind Alvarado

Starting pitcher Cesar Alvarado gave the Montreal Expos a rock-solid effort. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native helped his team defeat the Philadelphia Grizzlies, 3-1, at Olympic Stadium.

Montreal pitcher Freddy Silva got the win. He's now 7-1. John Martinez was tagged with the loss. The win gives Montreal a season record of 96-62.

Montreal got a knockout punch from Sam Spangler. The pinch hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome. He is batting .284-4-14 .854OPS 0.6WAR in 54 games.

Montreal Defeated By Aeros, 7-2

The Boston Aeros got a marvelous performance from pitcher Steve Behanna. The right-hander kept the Montreal offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 7-2 Boston victory at Fenway Park. In 7.2 innings, Behanna surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Ron Becker notched his 12th save in 13 chances.

Frank Marquez had a big 3-run home run for the Aeros in the bottom of the eighth inning. With Boston leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Austin Williams, who is a two-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 32nd home run of the season, which put the Aeros on top, 7-1. He is batting .242-32-94 .782OPS 2.4WAR in 149 games between MEM and BOS.
