Rockies Inaugural 25-Man Roster is Complete

After months of anticipation, the waiting is finally over. The Colorado Rockies have officially set their roster for their inaugural season, and the team is headed to New York for Opening Day against the Mets. GM Caleb Thorne and Manager Dusty Rhodes have made their final decisions, shaping the group of players who will forever be known as the first Colorado Rockies squad.

The Inaugural 25-man Roster
Pitchers (12)
--Starters: The rotation with be led by the veteran presence of Dwight Gooden, Terry Mulholland and Todd Stottlemyre, with young arms like Armando Reynoso and Gil Heredia also making the cut.
--Bullpen: The relief corps features a mix of experience and unproven talent, including Paul Abbott, Jack Armstrong, Steve Cooke, Kevin Ritz, Rudy Seanez, and Brian Shouse. The bullpen will be a key area to watch as they navigate the challenges of pitching at altitude.
Catcher (2)
--Sandy Alomar, Jr. and Eddie Taubensee will handle the catching duties. Alomar, a key pick in the expansion draft, is a proven talent expected to be a leader behind the plate.
Infielders (6)
--The infield is anchored by veteran David Segui at first base and expansion draft standout Pat Listach at second. The left side of the infield will be handled by Jeff Blauser at shortstop, and B.J. Surhoff at third. Utility player Luis Alicea and Terry Jorgensen also made the squad.
Outfielders (5)
--The outfield features a promising blend of youth and experience. Gernomo Berroa and David Segui (also at first base) bring power bats to the lineup, while Brian Hunter, Mike Kingery, and Lance Johnson will patrol the outfield.

Media Analysis
"Mile High Mike" O'Connell, Denver Sports Radio

"Alright, folks, this is it! The first 25! You've got some names you know, and you've got some young guys nobody's ever heard of. I'll tell you what, though, this team has a certain...a certain scrappiness to it. Thorne and Rhodes, they've picked guys who they think can compete. A lot of young pitchers, which is a risk, but it's a new team, a new city. You gotta take risks! I"m ready to see these guys go out there and prove everyone wrong!"

Isabelle "Izzy" Thorne, The Denver Post
"The final roster announced today reflects GM Caleb Thorne's clear and consistent philosophy. The team is built around a core of young, athletic talent, particularly on the pitching staff, with the hope of developing them within the system. The selection of players like Sandy Alomar, Jr. and Jeff Blauser provides a foundation of veteran leadership, but the emphasis is clearly on the long game. The bullpen, in particular, will face a steep learning curve. While there are a few surprises, the roster is a testament to the front office's commitment to building a sustainable winner rather than a short-term contender."
