This is the time of the season where you start to get pm's from players that are nearing the end of their contract, and they're wanting you to negotiate an extension. Here's mine ...

Good reliever, but I'm not paying close to that for a RP of his caliber.

Arenado has put up a great last 2 months, approaching league average quality despite not playing vs LHP. However, I'm not paying that for league average production, especially at his age.

I'd rather take a little lesser production from Christian Moore, for a lot less salary.

Another good, not great, MR. Not paying that much, would rather convert some minor league SP into good MR for cheaper.

This is the difficult one for me. Facing the prospect of having 3 young SP in the rotation for a franchise that's expecting to compete for titles, not having a reliable veteran as the 2 is worrisome. But, he won't budge from that 3-4 year demand.

Scherzer has had an amazing season, especially at 43. But, that's the deal breaker for me, the 43yo aspect. He wants multiple years of good money.

I contemplated giving him a QO, and if he leaves for a multi-year deal, then I'd get a good draft pick in return. But if he takes the QO and either under performs or gets hurt, that's a lost opportunity to upgrade elsewhere.

He's been a part of one of my best trades, and I do not feel obligated to push it further. He can walks. I'll take my chances.
