Rockies Carry Momentum Into June, Complete Sweep of Pirates!

The Rockies started the series in May defeating the Pirates 2-1 in the first game of the series. The Rockies completed the series sweep of the Pirates at Mile High Stadium.

Game 1: Gooden Dominate, Offense Explodes

The first game of June, played on the 1st, saw a solid performance from Rockies starter Dwight Gooden. Gooden pitched seven strong innings, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven, earning his fourth win of the seasson.

The offense provided plenty of support, breaking the game open early. Terry Jorgensen got things going with an RBI double in the second inning. The big bats continued to deliver, with Jeff Blauser crushing his ninth homer of the season and driving in three runs, and Sandy Alomar, Jr. adding his sixth homer. Lance Johnson also chipped in with a triple and two RBI. Kevin Ritz closed out the game for his ninth save.

Game 2: Comeback Kids Complete Sweep!
Rockies 8 Pirates 6

The Rockies completed the sweep in dramatic fashion, battling back for an 8-6 victory. This game showcased the team's resilience, as they rallied with a five-run eighth inning to take the lead for good.

While Pittsburgh's Chili Davis had a huge game with a home run and four RBI, it wasn't enough to stop the Rockies' late surge. Lance Johnson delivered a crucial go-ahead RBI triple in the eight inning, pushing the Rockies ahead 4-3. The offense continued to pile on, with timely hits from Mike Kingery, Luis Alicea, and Troy Neel. Rudy Seanez earned his third save, sealing the sweep.

Notably, newly called-up Jacob Brumfield made his debut, entering as a pinch-runner in the decisive eighth inning. Torey Lovullo, the other recent call-up, also made an appearance as pinch-hitter in the second game of the series.
