The Draft has been somewhat diminished in importance, with all of the Cat A NeLers now having entered the league, and this will escalate further after 1992 when all of the Cat A MLBers will have also come aboard.

Still, it needs to continue so that clubs remain adequately staffed at both the EL and TL levels until the league ends after 2009.

Big names in this year's Rookie Draft include MLBers David Justice, Ron Gant, Teddy Higuera, Lonnie Smith and Bump Wills, alongside NeLers including Pat Patterson and Dick Whitworth. It also features both Tommy Sampson and Sam Thompson.

Only a smattering of FA entering the league each season now, with Bobby Tolan the biggest name among those joining us this year.

Atlantic City has first crack at them and spends that pick on pitcher Francisco Liriano.
