The Kansas City Royals trumped the San Diego Padres, 4-1, at Kauffman Stadium. Kansas City second baseman Sam Haggerty was terrific. He went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. James McArthur was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 2 save opportunities. The win makes Kansas City 26-34. The Royals had to work out of trouble at the top of the eighth. The score was 4-1, Kansas City, with one out. San Diego, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, was mounting a threat. Ha-seong Kim dug in at the plate, but on a 1-0 curveball, he grounded out.
We are going to take in the win tonight and get on with business tomorrow. Wacha threw a much better game tonight, pitching for 111 total through 6.1 innings. He was staying ahead in the count on batters and choosing pitches for strikeouts well. Let’s hope he continues to show that this month.
