Rockies Open Second Half with Road Trip to Chicago and Florida
Chicago Cubs Series (1-3)
The Rockies faced a tough challenge against the Cubs at historic Wrigley Field, managing to take only one of the four games.
Game 1: Cubs 8 Rockies 1
The Rockies began the second half with a lopsided loss. Ryne Sandberg was the star for Chicago, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. Terry Mulholland, unfortunately, left the game with an injury after a collision while running the bases.
Game 2: Rockies 7 Cubs 6
Colorado bounced back with a hard-fought victory. Jacob Brumfield had a huge day at the plate going 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run, and three RBI. B.J. Surhoff also hit his first home run of the season. Gil Heredia picked up the win, and Jack Armstrong earned the save.
Game 3: Cubs 6 Rockies 2
The Cubs regained control, with Frank Castillo pitching effectively against the Rockies' lineup. Ryne Sandberg continued his power surge with a three-run homer run in the fourth inning.
Game 4: Cubs 5 Rockies 2
Chicago closed out the series win, holding the Rockies to just two runs despite 11 hits. Mike Kingery hit a two-run home run in the ninth, but it was too little, too late.
Florida Marlins Series (2-1)
Game 1: Rockies 11 Marlins 8
In a wild, high-scoring affair, the Rockies staged a late comeback. Trailing in the ninth, B.J. Surhoff delivered a crucial two-run single to put Colorado ahead. Troy Neel had a great game with a double, two walks, and three RBI. Kevin Ritz earned the win, Dave Burba picked up his first save.
Game 2 Rockies 5 Marlins 0
Gil Heredia delivered a masterful performance, pitching 6.1 shoutout innings, allowing only three hits, to lead the Rockies to a dominant victory. Shawon Dunston had a two-run single, and the offense collected 12 hits.
Game 3 Marlins 9 Rockies 4
The Marlins were able to salvage one game in the series, with Mark McLemore driving in four runs. The Rockies; pitching struggled in the late innings, giving up seven runs in the seventh and eighth.
