Sheffield Mountain Hares at Madrid Mallards
The Hares take on last year's division champions in their opening series.
Game 1 – April 2, 2060
Madrid Mallards 9, Sheffield Mountain Hares 0
The Sheffield Mountain Hares opened their 2060 WBL campaign with a tough 9-0 loss at home to the Madrid Mallards, struggling to make an impact on either side of the ball. Madrid starter
Josh Martin was dominant, tossing six scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and earning Player of the Game honours.
The Mallards broke the game open in the middle innings, capitalizing on Sheffield’s shaky bullpen. WBL veteran
M. Clerc led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with a homer, walk, and three RBIs, while outfielder
Abin Nu'man delivered a clutch two-run single in the fourth to extend Madrid’s lead to 3-0.
Sheffield starter
Yushua bin Saqr was tagged for five runs across five innings, but things only worsened after his exit. Relievers
Seth Phillips and
Francisco Flores allowed four more runs over the next three innings. Offensively, the Mountain Hares managed five hits, with doubles from
Jesus Morales and
Nsen Ngunda, but went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
It was a flat start to the season for Sheffield, who’ll be looking for a spark in game two of the series.
