Cards news: July 31 -- RHP Iglesias and minor-league catcher sent to Houston for RHP Ogando
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed reliever Joan Ogando from the Houston Astros in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher Rasiel Iglesias and minor-league catcher Nestor Rios.
Ogando, 24, has pitched at High-A Ashville this season going 4-3 with 23 saves and a 3.50 ERA in 34 games.
He will be assigned to a AA Springfield.
Iglesias, 39, signed with the Cardinals in the offseason and has pitched well.
But he has griped about not being the closer and his performance has declined over the last few weeks.
He got into 29 games for St. Louis going 2-1 with one save and a 3.07 ERA.
A 23-year-old catcher, Rios has spent this season at Springfield where he has hit .095 with one home run and three RBIs in 14 games/4 starts.
