				Cards news: August 4 -- OF Lawrence Butler agrees to five-year extension worth up to $116M
			 
 
			
			Looking to lock up their best players, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of outfielder Lawrence Butler to a five-year extension.The Cardinals signed All-Star second baseman Boston Baro to a six-year extension earlier in the week.
 Butler, 28, will be paid $23.2 million per season from 2029 through 2033.
 The 2033 season includes a team buyout.
 Acquired from the Athletics in a mid-season trade in 2025.
 Butler has hit .274 with 91 home runs, 288 RBIs and 260 runs scored in 442 games/427 games since joining the Cardinals.
 This season, Butler has played in 98 games/96 starts and has hit .272 with 18 home runs, 61 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
 Butler is a three-time All-Star, including in 2026 and 2027 while playing for St. Louis.
