Rockies Sweep Phillies in Thrilling Home Opening Series!
What an absolutely electrifying start to the 1994 season for our Colorado Rockies! The team returned to Mile High Stadium and put on a show for the home crowd, sweeping the Phillies in a thrilling three-game series to kick off the season with a perfect 3-0 record!
Game 2: Rockies Edge Phillies 5-4 for Second Straight Win
The Rockies kept the momentum rolling in game two, securing another tight 5-4 victory over Philadelphia. This game highlighted the team's resilience and ability to win close contests.
Starting pitcher Gil Heredia earned his first win of the season, navigating 6.0 innings and allowing four earned runs, including a grand slam by Phillies catcher Darren Daulton. The Rockies offense, however, continued to provide timely hitting. B.J. Surhoff delivered a clutch run-scoring single in the 5th inning, putting the Rockies ahead 5-0. Pat Listach also added a double. The bullpen once again held firm, with Jack Armstrong earning his second save in as many attempts. Manager Dusty Rhodes commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."

The Rockies completed the sweep in dramatic fashion in game three, taking down the Phillies 9-8 in a back-and-forth slugfest.
Lance Johnson was the offensive star of the game, going 3-for-5 with a triple and two singles, scoring three runs and driving in two. His run-scoring single in the 8th inning was crucial to the Rockies' late rally. Geronimo Berroa continued his power display with his second home run of the series. The bullpen proved pivotal, with newly acquired Chuck Finley picking up his first win as a Rocky.
