"Mile High Mike: Rockies Hit the Skids to End May!

"Alight, alright, Denver! It's your man, 'Mile High Mike,' and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. May started out like a dream, but the end of the month? Man, that was a nightmare. We were flying high, going an incredible 11-5 to start the month, and after that wild 5-1 extra-inning win over the Dodgers on May 19th, we were sitting pretty in first place with a fantastic 24-16 record! The Mile High City was buzzing, everyone was dreaming big, But then, the wheels...they came off.

"After that high of taking down the Dodgers, we just couldn't keep that momentum going, even at home. We faced the Atlanta Braves for a three-game set, and those guys are no joke. We dropped two of three to them on our own turf. You never like to lose a home series, especially after the start we had.

"Then came the Cincinnati Reds for a four-game series. Another tough team, and another frustrating outcome. We lost three of four to them right here at Mile High. The bats went quiet at key moments, and the pitching just couldn't consistently hold them down. It was a tough pill to swallow, losing series like that on our own diamond.

"And then we hit the road, hoping a change of scenery would du us good. Boy, were we wrong. We traveled to Montreal to take on the Expos for a three-game series. And folks, there's no way to say it other than we got swept. Three games, three loses. The offense went cold, and the Expos just took care of business.

"And to add insult to injury, we then headed to New York to face the Mets for a three-game set that stretched into June 1st. And guess what? Another sweep. Three more loses. The final game, on June 1st, just sealed the deal on a brutal stretch of baseball. We left a lot of guys on base, and the opposing pitchers just kept us in check.

"So, let's tally it up. After starting the month going 11-5 and taking over first place, we finished the back half of May and that first day of June with a dismal 2-11 record. That's right, two wins and eleven losses in our last thirteen games. That kind of slide drops our overall record to 26-27 as we finally get ready to come back to Mile High Stadium.

"It's a rough reminder that this is still an expansion team in its second full season, folks. We're going to have these peaks and valleys. This was s deep valley. The challenge now is to dig ourselves out, find that fire we had early in the month, and get back to playing Rockies' baseball. It's a long season, and we've got to turn the page quickly. We'll be back at Mile High soon, and we need our fans to bring the noise more than ever!"
