MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Tigers clinch place in postseason
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-8 to earn a berth in the American League playoffs.
Whether the Tigers will be a division champion or wild card remains to be seen.
At 85-72, the Tigers lead the American League Central Division by 2.5 games over the Chicago White Sox with five games left in the regular season.
The playoff berth is Detroit first since 2026.
The last time the Tigers reached the World Series was 2012, when they fell to the San Francisco Giants.
Detroit's last World Series championship was all the way back in 1984.
