Montreal, Chicago Agree to Swap
stadiumreport.bbn December 4th, 2023
In a move that has left many fans wondering, the
Montreal Expos have traded 19-year old minor league RHSP
Mario Maldonado(1.5/2*) and 27-year old minor league C
Kevin Craddock(27, 2.5*) to the
Chicago Rangers.
During his career,
Craddock has compiled a .205 batting average and collected 102 hits, 6 home runs and 38 RBIs. Following the 2022 season,
Craddock not only had lost his starting gig to trade acquisition
Gabriel Cervantes, but also the backup job to 26-year old
Jordan Chavis, who hit .238-8-22 .706OPS 0.2WAR in 64 games last season.
In return, the
Expos receive 18-year old minor league LF
Joey Collett(0.5/3.5* HS, 0.5/4* OSA).
Collett was the 28th overall pick in the 2023 draft and started off his rookie league career with a 8-29 performance in seven games. From Fort Lauderdale, the switch-hitter is a jack of all trades who masters none.

The
Chicago Rangers offered us that guy repeatedly for various guys, and it turned out that they really liked
Craddock here. The 27-year old has never blown us away and there are options down in our farm and available as minor league free agents.
To be exact, we offered minor league deals to C
Alex Velez(25, 2/2.5*), a career minor leaguer that is a 50 defense rated catcher… nothing special. Second one is a bit more interesting in 30-year old left-handed hitter
David Martinez(2.5*). A career .260-44-222 .694OPS 3.5WAR hitter with
Portland, we hope to get him on a minor league deal straight away, but we may have to go for a MLB option with $1.6M… manageable.
Apart from that, we are getting a ton of phone calls for AAA lefty reliever
Alex Guzman(24, 3*, 0-3 5SV 1.78 23K 0.2WAR AAA)… With
Herzer,
Mendoza and
Ide, this is a position of strength…
News:
November 26th – 2B
Tony Cardona(23, 2.5/3*) was successfully claimed off waivers.
