NMLB News Flash: Winter Meetings Begin
stadiumreport.bbn December 11th, 2023
Whatever the weather might be outside, the weather inside is almost guaranteed to be warm as the New Major League Baseball Winter Meetings are set to begin. The three days of nearly constant trade and contract talk is sure to heat up the rumor mill and it won't all be hot air as some deals that will fire up the imagination of fans and media members alike can be anticipated. With so many different club officials in close quarters, potential dealmakers can expect to get a quick reaction to their offers.
Now, let’s get you up to speed. As for our minor league contract offers, both catchers favor our deals right now, so we are green there. As for RHSP
Nick Dennett, his 1-year demand dropped to $8.7M… but we will wait him out and come back to him around January 1st.
On the trading side…
Alex Guzman is the key to our Winter Meeting success. We are in talks right now with the Win Now!
Cincinnati Eagles, trying to pry away at least two of the trio of R RF
Jose Bonilla(19, 0.5/3.5* HS, 0.5/3* OSA, 4th rounder 2022), R SS
Carlos Soto(19, 0.5/3.5* HS, 0.5/3* OSA) and S A RHRP
Joe Ohlsen(21, 2/3* OSA, 2/3.5* HS, 8th rounder 2020)… but maybe, there is more in this.
However, I wasn’t satisfied with the trade options. Yes, both position players are young, but not that stunning and a 21-year old reliever at Short A… and
Eagles GM Tyler Gleaton has not made the playoffs four out of nine seasons, including a World Series Win in 2021 for nothing… I left him a proposal, but wasn’t really happy with it.
That was when his close divisional rival Andrew Golden, a young 42-year old hotshot that has not missed the playoffs in five years on the helm of the
Detroit Trains, pulled me to the side and looked me into the eyes and said, “I don’t want
Guzman pitching against me. I’m offering you
Schilling in this deal.”
Dylan Schilling. The 30th overall pick in the 2021 draft. Right-hander and currently the #25 prospect in baseball. Our scouts think he is consensus 3* prospect. The OSA and Baseball America have him as a 4.5* arm. But, the kid is 23… long road to go on the development side… but there was a GM in front of me that was adamant to make a deal.. very adamant.
