Montreal and Detroit Trade Big
stadiumreport.bbn December 12th, 2023
It's all done except the paperwork. The
Montreal Expos and the
Detroit Trains have agreed to a trade that will send 24-year old minor league LHRP
Alex Guzman(3*, 0-3 5SV 1.78 23K 0.2WAR AAA), 20-year old minor league LHP
Chris Alberti(1.5/2.5*, 2-4 2.36 43K 1.0WAR S A), 23-year old minor league 3B
Mitku Kazemd(2.5*, -219-1-8 .528OPS -0.1WAR AAA), 23-year old minor league 2B
Tony Cardona(2.5/3*), and 20-year old minor league RHSP
Paul Ramsey(1.5/3*, 3-2 2.08 44K 1.0WAR R/S A/ A) to Detroit.
Going back to the
Expos is 23-year old minor league RHP
Dylan Schilling(2/3* HS, 2/4.5* OSA, 7-3 4.59 86K 1.4WAR AA), 22-year old minor league CF
Mike Gosselin(1.5/3.5*, .337-8-38 .921OPS 2.5WAR R/S A/A), 19-year old minor league C
Armando Navarro(0.5/3*, .329-1-17 .797OPS -0.4WAR R), and 20-year old minor league LHP
Matt State(1.5/3*, 3-3 3.44 95K 2.1WAR R/S A/A).
A top front office executive with the
Expos described the trade talks as "quick and easy." "We're glad to get this deal done. We think it's something that helps our ball club and it didn't take too long at all to sort this one out," he said. In fact, rumor has it that the
Cincinnati Eagles GM was not amused by the trade and the result as he also had his eyes on
Alex Guzman.

My assistant GM Alan Lehmann hated the deal, Dave Gomez was… not swayed in any direction, and our farm director was… sad to see our 2022 3rd rounder (
Alberti and our 2021 2nd rounder (
Ramsey) go, but both are starters with low control potential and both
Schilling and
State are closer to what we like, and the wild card in this deal is
Gosselin. The 22-year old is a top notch defender in left field with good speed and a well-rounded bat… and Dave Gomez juust recently ranked his potential up… this could be a steal.
Odds are, this is a deal that was made… to make a deal and hope for a break, for me, the transaction is pretty even. What this does… is thinning out or middle of the infield depth… so we offered a minor league contract to free agent IF
Tommy Campbell(26, 2.5*), a bang-average second baseman that does nothing really well but can be… useful.
With the trade chips fired… we let the Winter Meetings go by… oh, and Tyler Gleaton refuses to talk to me anymore after I snubbed him and dealt with his biggest rival.
News:
December 30th – Prior to the Rule 5 draft, we placed AAA LF
Santiago Rodriguez(22, 2.5/4*), AA RHRP
Adam Krebs(2.5/4*), AA RHSP
Alejandro Corral(22, 2.5/3*) and AAA RHRP
Wyatt Ings(23, 3*) on the 40-man to protect them. We didn’t pick anyone, we didn’t lose anyone.
January 1st – Starting pitching update:
Nick Dennett wants a 3y/$52.8M deal. The
Nats want him badly, we don’t… for that money.
