Kings Hand Montreal 6-3 Opening Day Loss
The
Pittsburgh Kings started the 2024 season win an impressive 6-3 win against the
Montreal Expos at PMC Park.
Victor Alvarez, who finished 3rd in the EL in strikeouts with 211 in 2022, led the way for
Pittsburgh.
"Victor did a good job of managing their lineup," said
Pittsburgh manager Randy Sandlin.
Alfonso Siordia earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.
Pittsburgh designated hitter
Bill Matthews contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a sinker to left-center field for a 2-run single. It was his 1st hit of the season and put the
Kings ahead, 3-0. The 3x All-Star hit .269-22-67 .768OPS 0.7WAR in 2023.

Montreal Expos at PMC Park, leading his team to victory, 4-3.
Alfonso Siordia closed the game out for
Pittsburgh, earning his 3rd save. The win puts
Pittsburgh at 3-0.

Kings got a big at-bat from left fielder
Danny Roman. For the game,
Roman was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave
