Cards news: June 28 -- Shoulder injury will sideline Showalter

The St. Louis Cardinals have placed starting pitcher Zach Showalter on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a mild shoulder strain while pitching in what would be a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on June 27.
The 25-year-old Showalter has made 17 starts this season going 4-4 with a 4.04 ERA.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is veteran right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.
Pfaadt, 30, went 23-19 for the Cardinals during the 2027 and 2028 season after being acquired from the Diamondbacks.
But the 2029 season wasn't good, as in six starts and posting a 1-3 record with a 9.11 ERA.
That led to a demotion to AAA Memphis, which included a trip to the injured list with an oblique strain, during which he has gone 2-2 with a 4.44 ERA in seven games/three starts.
