Astros Get Clutch Win. 3-2

Houston turned a good effort from starter Gong-sun Zhào into a win over the Montreal Expos at
Minute Maid Park. The final score was 3-2. Houston reliever David Kohler got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Paul Ide was tagged with the loss. Montreal falls to 14-10.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Houston designated hitter Jose Martinez, facing Paul Ide, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Astros the 3-2 win.

"Bottom line," said Montreal skipper Aaron McCreery, "we didn't play well enough to win."

Expos Get Welborn, Nationals Ide

In a move that has sent shockwaves throughout the league, the Montreal Expos have acquired 26-year old RHRP Zachary Welborn(26, 5*) from the Washington Nationals in exchange for 26-year old LHRP Paul Ide and 25-year old minor league CF Bobby Martinez(25, 2.5*, .421-2-5 1.108OPS 1.1WAR AA).

"Whenever you have the opportunity to acquire this kind of quality, you have to take it," GM Martin of the Expos explained to the press today. "We hope the fans are excited about this deal as we are."

This season, Ide has crafted a 1-2 won-lost mark, pitched in 8 relief appearances and rung up 3 saves. He has a 8.64 ERA and has allowed 10 hits over his 8.1 innings of work, struck out 7 batters and walked 4.

Up to this point in the season, Welborn has put up these stats: 11 relief appearances, 9 saves, 11 IP, 24 strikeouts and 3.27 ERA. His won-lost record is 0-0 with the opposition is hitting .154 against him.

Well, that is probably better than a life sentence in jail for me. Welborn is a righty that won Reliever of the Year last season and has one year less of service time. Let’s see if the jinx stays with us…
