MLB news: Sept. 19 -- Mets clinch postseason berth
Despite a 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Mets are assured of the place in the National League playoffs.
At 90-60, the Mets lead the second-place Washington Nationals by 8.5 games in the National League East Division with 12 games left in the regular season.
It is the second straight postseason berth for the Mets, who reached the playoffs a year ago as a wild card.
New York has not played in the World Series since 2015, when it lost to the Kansas City Royals.
The Mets last World Series win came in 1986, when they defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games.
