MLB news: Sept. 21 -- Mets are champs of National League East
The New York Mets clinched a playoff berth and sewed up the National League East Division championship with their 10-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Mets (92-60) lead the Washington Nationals by 10.5 games in the NL East with 10 games left on their schedule.
New York trails the Milwaukee in the race for the best record in the NL by 1.5 games.
The playoff appearance is the second in a row for New York, who in 2028 advanced as a wild card.
The Mets last reached the World Series in 2015, losing to the Kansas City Royals.
They last won the World Series in 1985, defeating the Boston Red Sox in seven games.
