MLB news: Sept. 27 -- Detroit earns wild-card berth
The Detroit Tigers defeated the Atlanta Braves 9-5 to clinch a wild-card berth in the upcoming American League playoffs.
The Tigers (82-76) sit in second place in the Amercian League Central Division, 3.5 games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox with four games remaining in their regular season.
It is the second straight postseason berth for Detroit, which won the division in 2028.
The Tigers last reached the World Series in 2012, losing to the San Francisco Giants.
Their last World Series title came in 1984, when they defeated the San Diego Padres.
