MLB news: Sept. 29 -- Angels prevail in AL West race
With a 2-1 victory over the Las Vegas Athletics, the Los Angeles Angels sewed up their first American League West Division championship since 2014.
At 90-70, the Angels lead the second-place Houston Astros by four games with just two games remaining in the regular season.
Los Angeles also remains in contention for the top seed in the AL playoffs, as it sits just a game behind the AL East Division-leading Baltimore Orioles for the best record in the league.
The Angels last made the playoffs in 2027.
Their lone World Series appearance came in 2002, when they downed the San Francisco Giants in seven games.
