Cards news: Dec. 19 -- RHP Church acquired from Cleveland for SP Joey Estes
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed relief pitcher Marc Church from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for right-handed starting pitcher Joey Estes.
Drafted by the Rangers in the 18th round of the 2019 draft, Church broke into the majors in 2024 and spent four seasons in the Rangers bullpen before being traded to Cleveland in the 2028 offseason.
Last season, Church, 28, got into 58 games going 4-7 with 32 saves and a 4.33 ERA.
For his career, he has appeared in 299 games, all in relief and gone 23-31 with 61 saves and a 3.60 ERA.
The 28-year-old Estes led the Cardinals in wins last year while going 14-9 with a 4.68 ERA.
And has been a dependable starter during his tenure with the team.
Acquired via trade from Oakland before the 2027 season, he pitched in 78 games/73 starts for St. Louis and posted a 24-27 record with one saves and a 4.22 ERA.
