September 8-10, 2034: vs Kansas City (3)
Game 1: 1-2 L. LP-Ogando (4-5). Starter-Buckman (5.2 5 1 1 3 7). Tampa Bay bats were silenced in this one by KC's Danny Jackson, the namesake of another Royals pitcher from the 1980s, who held them to a mere two hits. Still it was 1-1 game until the 9th when Ogando gave up a leadoff double that came around to score.
Game 2: 6-2 W. WP-Vargas (12-5, 6 4 1 0 1 6). HR-K.White (44), Juan (4/16). White's 2-run homer in the first put them ahead to stay and Vargas was brilliant once again, lowering his ERA to 2.22 which is second-best in the AL.
Game 3: 4-5 L. LP-Najera (11-7, 5 5 2 2 2 5). HR-Hardy (21). The bullpen let this one get out of hand as Little gave up a 3-run shot in the 7th to make it 5-0, and that proved the difference when Hardy belted a grand slam in the 9th. They got a man to second after that but couldn't bring him home.
Team record: 84-59. This was their first series loss in three weeks and the first time in a while Toronto gained ground on them, reducing the division lead to 4 games with the magic number at 16. Next up: 3 games in Cleveland against a woeful 53-91 Guardians squad.
