Just make sure you don't sign him to an extension if you want PPI status to stay intact.
I hope this gets fixed in a new patch or in 27, but signing a player to an extension at, I believe, any time during the PPI period nukes his eligibility in the game. Whereas in real life that's only the case if they sign the extension before they debut.
