The St. Louis Cardinals have placed catcher Jimmy Crooks on the 10-day injured list after he suffered an intercostal strain during a 1-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 29.
Rainel Rodriguez, 23, has been called up from AAA Memphis.
Crooks is expected to be out for up to four weeks.
The 28-year-old Crooks has seen a downturn at the plate this season.
In 46 games/43 starts, he has hit just .217 with three home runs and 20 RBIs.
In 38 games between AAA Memphis and AA Springfield, Rodriguez has hit .295 with seven home runs and 17 RBIs.
