Cards news: July 7 -- Hamstring injury lands 2B Baro on injured list; IF Vargas called up from AAA
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed second baseman Boston Baro on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a hamstring injury during a 9-6 victory over the Cleveland Indians on July 6.
A two-time All-Star starter at second base, Baro, 25, is hitting .277 with nine home runs and 30 RBIs through 84 games/78 starts this season.
Getting called up from AAA Memphis is 28-year-old infielder Alexander Vargas.
Signed as a free agent in the off-season, Vargas has played in 82 games/78 starts for the Redbirds this season and hit .259 with six home runs and 43 RBIs.
He does have some major-league experience having played in 142 games during stints with first the New York Yankees and most recently the San Diego Padres.
In those games, he has hit .239 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs.
