Alright… picture this… it’s a crisp September afternoon at the United Center. Da Hawks. Da mighty, mighty Hawks. They didn’t just win this one, they put a hurting on the Los Angeles Kings, 15 to 3. That’s not a hockey score, that’s a Polish sausage picnic gone wild.
Bob: “Fifteen runs. FIFTEEN. That’s more runs than Ditka would allow yards in a game.”
Bill: “Ditka vs. the Kings… Ditka wins… 15 to negative 3.”
Da Hawks got the bats goin’ early — Trevino and Bedard each hittin’ two bombs. A. Gonzalez, another two dingers. Even Choi got in on the action with a moonshot. It was like watchin’ the ‘85 Bears defense, but with aluminum bats.
Bob: “I tell ya, Bedard had six RBIs. SIX. That’s more points than the Packers score in a playoff game.”
Bill: “And Foligno? Series MVP. The man’s got more pop than a cooler fulla Old Style on gameday.”
Meanwhile, the Kings’ pitching staff looked like they were tryin’ to stop a freight train with a garden hose. Jurado… Leistra… Brennan… Heijmans… Llera… Fuggedaboutit.
Bob: “If Ditka was pitchin’… no runs. Not one. Just Ditka, a bratwurst, and a splitter.”
The crowd was roarin’, 41,000 strong, probably half of ‘em with Italian beef in one hand and a beer in the other. United Center hasn’t seen a blowout like this since Da Bulls in the ‘90s.
Bill: “Hawks movin’ on to the Conference Finals… eighth time in team history. Next up: Oilers or Avalanche. But honestly… if they were facin’ Ditka…”
Bob & Bill together: “DITKA IN 4!”
Final thought: Fifteen runs, seven homers, and da Kings packin’ their bags. That’s what we call in Chicago… a good Friday.
