We start the month off finishing up our 2 game series with Kingston after winning game 1 of the set 9-8.

Kingston Comets (22-32) 4 vs Chicago Architects (34-20) 5
Starting Pitchers Ralph Lapthorne 1-5 7.25 vs Augusto Gonzalez 1-1 3.48
A - 39,934

Kingston’s run of late-inning losses continues. The Comets take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Prowler Ashley, who earlier doubled in two runs, singles in the tying run, and Sean White scored the winning run on a Samuel Amsden sac fly. Ken Shannon (5-0) picked up the win in relief. Chicago 5, Kingston 4.
C S White 3-4 2R, RF J Ashley 3-4 2DB 3RBI's

CH HR's - None

We head now to Windsor to take on the Vigilantes (27-28). We have achieved a 5-5 record against Candian clubs which is very rare since I have arrived in Chicago.

Windsor 9 Chicago 6
Starting pitcher Al Pelleran 4-5 6.58 vs Val Imbert 5-3 4.14

The Tects take the early lead, but the Vigilant Nine come back with a five-run seventh. Carlos Rodríguez delivers the tying and leading runs with a three-run home run. Chris Allen goes 3-for-4 with a home run, double, and four RBIs. RP Larry Stott had a very difficult game allowing 4 critical unearned runs in the 7th inning on his own throwing error to the first batter he faced. It was all downhill after that for Stott (L 1-3). Windsor 9, Chicago 6.

CH HR - None
2B J Lambert 2-4 2R BB

Chicago Architects 9 vs Windsor Vigilantes 8
A- 26,753
Starting Pitchers JJ Walker 3-2 5.32 vs Ernest Ferguson 2-2 3.72

The Architects nearly squander a 9-2 lead. Chicago scored in each of the first five innings. Prowler Ashley and Larry Davis both homer. Davis was brought up to replace the traded Kent Noseworthy, and this was his first major-league home run. Congratulations, Larry! In eight major league games, he’s hitting .343. Windsor scores three times in the fifth, twice in the seventh, and one in the eighth, and if you’re doing the math, you’ll see that that leaves them one run short. Bill Lutz picked up his 4th win (4-3) of the season in relieft of Walker Chicago 9, Windsor 8.

LF M Graves 2-5 DB 2R 2SB, 3B L Davis 2-5 HR R 3RBI, 1B R Osborn 2-4 DB R BB, C S White 2-5 2R RBI, RF J Ashley 3-5 HR 2R 2RBI 2B SB, W Dunse 3-5 DB R SB, SS P Farrulla 2-4 RBI
CH HR - 3B L Davis (1) RF J Ashley (10)

Summary - So winning 2 out of 3 to start the month against Canadian teams is a good start. We continue to led the South of the Border Division, but the bad news is that 3B Thomas Arnaud will be out a bit longer than originally anticipated.

We head next to Traverse City where the Bears are in a free fall without starting CF Cal Braud.

Game 1
Starting Pitchers Jose Cedeno 3-3 5.88 vs William Charles 4-2 4.38

Chicago Architects 5 Traverse City Bears 3 (12)
Let’s pick it up in the eighth where the game is tied, 2-2. Chicago gets four straight singles. The third single, struck by Sean White, scores a run. On the fourth single, José Aranda gets thrown out at home to end the inning. The Tects take that 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth, where Earl Foote doubles, and Bernie Stoddart singles him in. The game goes to extra innings. In the 12th, Prowler Ashley singles, steals second, and scores on a Walker Dunse double. Dunse, in turn, steals third and scores on sac fly. The Bears lose their fifth straight game. Chicago 5, Traverse City 3.

Game 2

Starting Pitchers Joe Johnson 2-0 3.62 vs Walt Marcotte 4-2 4.12

Chicago’s Matt Graves triples on the game’s first pitch. He scored two pitches later on a sac fly. In the third, Graves singles, Larry Davis triples him in, Reagan Osborn doubles in Davis, Prowler Ashley singles in Osborn, and (after Ashley steals second) Walker Dunse singles in Ashley. That’s four more runs in all. The Tects never look back. While the Tech's didn't hit any home runs (again) they did manage 4 doubles and 3 triples in easily handing the Bears another defeat. Chicago 9, Traverse City 3.

LF M Graves 3-5 DB, TP, 2R 1 RBI SB, 3B L Davis 2-3 DB, TP, 2R 3RBI, 1B R Osborn 2-4 DB, R RBI BB, RF J Ashley 2-5 TP, R 3RBI SB

Game 3
Chicago @ Traverse City
A -26,976
Starting Pitchers August Gonzalez 1-1 4.21 vs Craig Bryant 0-2 8.22

TC 6 Chicago 5
When Chicago scores five runs in the first two frames, it looks like Traverse City is headed to their seventh straight loss. But the Bears fight back. They scored three runs in the second and third. They scored a fourth in the seventh. In the eighth, three singles scored the tying run, and a groundout to third scored Earl Foote. Foote, by the way, goes 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. The Bears snap their losing streak. Traverse City 6, Chicago 5.

June 7th Off Day

June 8th 2055
Chicago Architects @ Duluth Sea Gulls
@ Duluth's Sea Gulls Field
A- 38,833
Starting Pitchers Val Imbert 5-3 3.72 vs Chris Collier 3-4 3.75

Duluth 3 Chicago 2
In the first, Chicago’s José Aranda singles in Reagan Osborn. In the sixth, Osborn singles in Larry Davis. Val Imbert (6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K) pitches six shutout innings. The Tects take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, giving the ball to their closer Pat Wright. Three Gulls singles load the bases, but Wright digs deep and strikes out Bill Whalley. Alejandro Escobar flies to right. Joe Rodgers steps to the plate. Two outs. Bases loaded. His team trailing, 2-0. Rodgers lines a double to right. One run scored. Two runs scored. Rafael Morales, running on contact, rounds third and makes it home. The right fielder doesn’t even attempt a throw. Duluth 3, Chicago 2.

1B R Osborn 4-4 2DB, R, RBI,
CH HR - none

Summary - A so-so week with a 3-3 record after losing the last two. That loss to Duluth stings (especially how we lost it in the 9th inning) as it allows them to close the gap on us to 4 games. We really need to at least split the 2 remaining games as we just do not want to let them back into this thing (and most say they were never "out".)

We have gone into a bit of a home run drought too. We better find our power pop again as we have both Duluth and Toledo next week for 5 games.
