Cards news: July 31 -- RHP Dean Kremer acquired from Colorado for OF Davis and IF Vargas

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired right-handed starting pitcher Dean Kremer in exchange for minor-league outfielder Chase Davis and infielder Alexander Vargas.
Looking to add a veteran fifth-starter, Kremer, 34, has gone 7-8 n 21 starts with a 3.99 ERA.
Kremer broke into the majors in 2020 with the Orioles before spending the 2026 season in Milwaukee.
He has been with the Rockies for the past four seasons, winning 10 or more games each of the previous three seasons.
For his career, Kremer has pitched in 249 games, all but one a start, and gone 84-75 with a 4.06 ERA.
Taken in the first round of the 2023 draft, Davis has been a number of chance to show what he can do in the majors but it has never translated.
This season, he has played 20 games/10 starts for the Cardinals and hit just .152 with just one RBI.
Since making his major league debut in 2027, Davis has gotten into 117 games/86 starts and hit just .198 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs.
He has split this season at AAA Memphis and AA Springfield during which he has hit .264 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.
Signed as a minor league free agent after spending the previous few seasons in the San Diego organization.
Vargas, 28, spent four games/3 starts but failed to register a hit in 12 at bats.
At AAA Memphis, Vargas has hit .262 with six home runs and 46 RBIs in 85 games/81 starts.
