The St. Louis Cardinals have placed right-handed relief pitcher A.J. Russell on the 15-day injured list after he suffered an ankle injury while pitching in a 16-4 loss to the New York Mets on February 21.
The 26-year-old is expected to miss up to eight weeks.
Acquired in the offseason from the New York Yankees, Russell made his major league debut last season and in 13 games went 3-0 with one saves and a 1.50 ERA.
