HARRY DOYLE ON THE CALL — GAME 1, 1924 WORLD SERIES
Cleveland Indians vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Final: Indians 16, Brewers 10
“Well folks… was this a football score? Looks like the Browns just took down the Packers, 16–10!
But nope — you can put away the pigskin and the shoulder pads. That was baseball, believe it or not! Game 1 of the 1924 World Series, and our Tribe just put up enough crooked numbers to make a math teacher dizzy.
The Indians scored in bunches — two in the fifth, five in the sixth, five more in the seventh, and just for good measure, four in the ninth. Milwaukee did their best to keep up, but the Brew Crew ran out of beer and bullpen before they ran out of innings.
Cleveland catcher Willie Cobos had himself a day — four hits, two doubles, a couple RBIs, and three runs scored. The guy reached base so many times he probably had his own parking space out there. Chris Alfonso drove in five, because apparently he wanted to join the fun too.
And let’s not forget, folks — the Indians are now 8-0 in the postseason. That’s right, eight straight. They swept the Yankees out of the ALCS, and now they’ve kicked off the Fall Classic by turning American Family Field into a pinball machine.
The Brewers? Well, they’re gonna have to find some pitching before this thing gets outta hand. You can’t win a World Series giving up 20 hits and 16 runs — unless, of course, the other team forgets to show up.
So after Game 1, it’s the Indians 16, the Brewers 10. Cleveland leads the series, one game to none, and they’re still perfect in October. We’ll see you tomorrow for Game 2 — same time, same place, same hangover!”
