MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL
CLEVELAND INDIANS AT MILWAUKEE BREWERS
October 30, 1924 – American Family Field, Milwaukee, WI
“Well folks, the Indians have done it again! Cleveland takes Game 2 of the World Series, 6 to 4, and they now lead this thing two games to none. Somebody call the fire department, because Israel Fernandez is absolutely on fire! The man went 3-for-5, drove in three, and put this one to bed with a bases-clearing triple in the ninth. Indians win it, 6–4 — the Brew Crew left wondering what hit ‘em.”
“Let’s rewind this one, shall we? Milwaukee had a 4–2 lead in the sixth after T. Dominguez’s solo blast and a few timely knocks, but you could just feel the tension building. Then, with two outs in the ninth, Fernandez strode up, bases loaded, and—BAM!—ripped one down the line for a triple. That’s three in the bank and Cleveland in the driver’s seat. They never looked back.”
“And if you’re keeping score at home—and I know you are—R.l Lopez also went deep earlier, a two-run shot in the sixth that gave the Tribe some life. Pitcher Marco Tolo went eight gritty innings, gave up four runs, and probably aged five years in the process, but he gets the ‘W.’ Lupe Garcia shut the door in the ninth for the save.”
“Meanwhile, the Brewers had their chances, but couldn’t cash in. Starter R. Alvarado pitched well enough to win, but the bullpen… let’s just say they’d rather forget that ninth inning. Tough day for the home crowd.”
“So Cleveland heads back to Jacobs Field up two games to none, hotter than a sidewalk in July. The Brew Crew better find their mojo fast, or this series could be over quicker than you can say ‘wild thing!’”
Player of the Game: Israel Fernandez — three hits, three RBIs, one big ol’ triple that broke Milwaukee’s heart.
