Week 8 Summary

5/17 at Chicago (25-19): Barons 4, Blues 3
5/18 at Chicago (25-20): Barons 4, Blues 3
5/19 vs Los Angeles (24-22): Barons 12, Palms 2
5/20 vs Los Angeles (24-23): Barons 5, Palms 2
5/21 vs Denver (26-22): Zephyrs 8, Barons 0
5/22 vs Denver (27-22): Zephyrs 9, Barons 5

Transactions: Jerry Sutton and two pretty miserable prospects have been sent to Oakland for Craig Long, a right fielder who is just barely an upgrade from Sutton in hitting, but is an absolutely elite defender.

Standout Batters: The usual suspects, Aroyo and Schultz, continued to rake the cover off the ball (hitting a combined .400 between the two of them, with 7 extra base hits), but it was the lower ends of the lineup, Francisque Mizurado, Jerry Bartlett, and Ricardo Morris, who turned this week from a passable one into a great one.

Standout Pitchers: Tommy McCarthy finally gets a win! He then immediately got lit up and saw his ERA return to earth. That's how baseball is, I suppose. Everyone here except for Steve Jacobson pitched a gem on the mound, the relievers all managed to do their part (besides Saldago. Why is he still our closer?), and Terry Higgins pitched another inning and change of shutout ball.

Side note: Despite being terrible and continuing to be terrible, Tony Salgado actually had the 2nd most strikeouts of anyone this week, and Tommy McCarthy only passed him because he played twice.

NL North Standings:
Chicago Blues: 29-21
Milwaukee Coopers: 27-23
St. Louis Spirits: 26-24
Columbus Explorers: 25-25
Cincinnati Centurions: 18-32
Pittsburgh Barons: 17-32

Overview: Well, we finally escaped the dregs of dead last in our league (that goes to the Buffalo Beacons), and if we keep this hot streak going, our spirits are looking up. If we can beat the Centurions, I'll be happy here.
