Mr Johns has alloted a budget of 60 million this year which is 13th in the league. Our payroll sits at 13.4 million, which is 32nd of 32 teams. We have a ton of money both available and for extensions. I don't plan on that mattering unless we have to take on money to get talent or draft picks.
Prior to opening day we have 17 players on major league contracts with 10 more joining on opening day when their MLB deals kick in.
Shortstop Russell Matson is the only player on a long term contract. His deal runs through 2014 at 4.3 million per year. The 32 year old drew, and will continue to draw interest from around the league and it will be a market I pay close attention to.
OF'ers Jesse Roberts, Xavier Wynn, and Eddie “Grasshopper Jim” Cook are the fan favorites in town.
