It’s the day before spring training and head Scout Daniel Rodriguez came into my office this morning with the final results of our development lab programs:

SS Francisco Rubio, generate batspeed - no improvement
2B Guillermo Salvador, gap power - outstanding, current and potential gap +5
SP Jim Reed, improve control - no improvement
1B Raffale Martinella, generate batspeed - successful, current power +15
SS Jorge Gonzales, plate discipline - successful, current + >5
RP Javier Bueno, improve control - poor, current movement and control - >5
3B Sergej Pijnenburg, quality contact - successful, current BABIP +10
SP Bobby Tyree, improve control - outstanding, current and potential control + >5
2B Do-Hyun Lee, plate discipline - successful, current eye + >5
LF Leo Jimenez, two strike approach - outstanding, current avoid k’s +10, potential avoid k’s + <5

I would say this is a majority good result overall. I’m extremely happy about Martinella as he looks major league ready, which pushes my hand with Felix Reyna. They’ll split time in spring training at first base. The only negative is of course Bueno, but he is young and can improve upon that. Our lineup looks a lot better with these improvements.
