Catcher: Marçall Camacho returns behind the plate for Oakland and remains their best player overall. He can opt out of the remaining 3 years of his contract following this season, it remains to be seen if Oakland will try to re-sign him if he does, or if they will trade him if they don't get off to a hot start. Ronnie Hatton will back him up again this year, and while he won’t hit for much he’ll call a good game behind the plate. Newly acquired Javy Rodriguez will start in AAA.
Infield: Felix Reyna beat out Raffale Martinella to win the first base job in spring training, but Martinella is almost ready. Guillermo Salvador has been given the keys to second base following the offseason trades of Rico Gutierrez and Jim McAfee. Sergej Pijnenburg returns to third base, and Jorge Gonzales will look to capitalize at short given the full time role as he attempts to hold off #1 prospect Francisco Rubio. Javier Rodriguez and Juan Molieri will serve as backups. Aside from Rubio in the minors, middle infielder Do-hyun Lee is almost ready, but does not have a real starting spot as of now.
