Amador’s Breakout Year Earns NL Rookie of the Year Honors
Denver, CO — Colorado Rockies second baseman Adael Amador capped a dazzling debut season by being named the National League Rookie of the Year for 2024, the league announced Tuesday.
Amador was the model of consistency from Opening Day through the season’s final weekend, anchoring the Rockies’ batting order from the DH spot and occasional second base play across 161 games. The 21-year-old hit .316, piling up 214 hits while showing a rare blend of power, patience and speed. He finished with 25 home runs, 104 RBI, 55 walks, and 121 runs scored; posting a .373 on-base percentage that placed him among the league’s most productive everyday players.
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes (16-17 W/L, 290 K's, 261 IP, 5.1 WAR) finished second in the voting after an eye-catching first season that quickly established him as one of the league’s most formidable young arms. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio (.267/.292/.480; 4.1 WAR) placed third, earning praise for his athleticism and two-way contributions in the outfield.
