The St. Louis Cardinals have placed left-handed pitcher Miguel Acosta on the 15-day injured list after he was diagnosed with a strained hamstring suffered while pitching in an 8-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians on June 4.
The 23-year-old Acosta is expected to miss up to five weeks.
In his brief time in the majors this season, Acosta had pitched made five relief appearances going 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA.
The Cardinals will call up 27-year-old left-hander Wande Torres from AAA Memphis.
Torres has pitched in 16 games this season between the Redbirds and AA Springfield.
In those games, he is 2-0 with a 7.97 ERA.
