Cards news: June 19 -- Major deal with Braves returns a starting pitcher and OF prospect

With their season looking bleak, the St. Louis Cardinals have opted to shed a couple of prospects which will expire at the end of the season, center fielder Michael Harris II and catcher Jimmy Crooks to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Tyler Fay and minor-league outfielder Darren Marshall.
Fay, 28, was claimed off waivers by Atlanta from the Pirates in the offseason.
In 13 games, seven starts, he has gone 1-3 with a 3.64 ERA.
Fay broke into the majors with the Pirates in 2029.
Since then, he has pitched in 95 games/74 starts and gone 20-21 with a 4.38 ERA.
Originally drafted by the Rockies, Atlanta acquired Marshall in an off-season trade.
He has spent the 2032 season at AAA Gwinnett where in 63 games he has hit .262 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs.
Marshall briefly got into the majors in 2031 with the Braves, playing in 19 games/15 starts and hitting .190 with one home run and four RBIs.
The Cardinals acquired Harris in a 2030 offseason trade with the Braves where he had been a five-time All-Star.
Harris had a solid 2031 season hitting .266 with 22 home runs and 92 RBIs in 149 games/146 starts.
But this season has been a struggle, as he has hit just .224 with five homers and 25 RBIs in 64 games/61 RBIs.
Crooks, 30, became the Cardinals starting catcher in 2028 and earned All-Star appearances in 2028 and 2029.
But his presence at the plate has dropped this season, he's hitting .234 with four home runs and 11 RBIs in 54 games/51 RBIs, and with free agency looming.
His $14M price tag to continue with him behind the plate doesn't look like a good idea.
