But these are problems the college presidents are allowing to happen. Because they don't want to make the players employees. So if they are going to stay "students" then any restriction is a hypocritical action towards that position. So when do students transfer? After the semesters are over. That is during the football postseason.
And let's get a fuller picture. Don't forget who else transfers while the season is going on: The Coaches. What also doesn't get talked about is that a lot of the players that "transfer" are actually released. Also kept secret is all the "chaos" that goes on is because every loophole that gets exploited is a loophole they can exploit on somebody else in return.
All of this I use to fuel my argument that college football should be replaced by a minor league system. College presidents are ill-equipped and not qualified to run big time sports. They are academics. Not people built for sports. All they are concerned about with organized sports is the revenue it sends their way for endowments. They care nothing for the game itself.

Nobody ever talks about the kids that sign on to attend a certain school only to get there and have the coaching staff do everything in their power to make them quit. Heck, if you watched the classic movie One on One you know it happened to Robbie Benson....before or after he jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge

At least the portal gives kids facing a bad situation a way out. It also might be something as simple as a kid getting to a school far from home and realizing the homesick blues are too much for him or her to overcome. I personally think the portal is a great thing. I do think the redshirt rules need to be tightened up big time. Lets get back to when kids had 4 or at the most 5 years of eligibility.
