MLB news: Sept. 26 -- Tigers clinch AL Central crown
For the fourth time in the past five seasons, the Detroit Tigers have claimed the title of the American League Central Division.
With a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Tigers made sure the Minnesota Twins would not be able to catch them,
Detroit (99-56) leads the Twins by nine games with seven left in the regular season.
The Tigers also have wrapped up the top seed in the AL playoffs, as the Twins own the second-best record in the league.
It will be the fifth straight trip to the playoffs for the Tigers.
Detroit last reached the World Series in 2009 when it fell to the Colorado Rockies.
The Tigers last World Series title came in 1984, when they defeated the San Diego Padres.
