KING KONRAD PUTS IN CLASSIC PERFORMANCE AT K.C.
LEGENDARY BATSMAN PUNISHES HOSTS WITH FIVE HITS & SIX RBI IN DOUBLE-DIGIT WIN
BROOKLYN (June 5, 1878) - St. John’s entered Washington Park on Wednesday looking to even up their series at Kings County. Thanks to a performance by their most famous player, St. John’s succeeded with a double-digit victory:
The first two innings ended with the score 1-1 and the 1,860 in attendance expecting a hard-fought game between the two over-500 teams. Instead, St. John’s moved four men past the plate in the 3rd, five more in the 4th, and a further pair in the 5th to take a 12-1 lead and put a seal on the win.
Six St. John’s batsmen had multiple base hits, and #8 batter Frederick Drake had a fine afternoon:• STJ C Frederick Drake: 4/7 (all 1B), 2 R, 5 RBI However, it was St. John’s old master, Konrad Jensen, who won the day with his best performance in nearly three years:• T1: Ground Out to 1B (2 out)
• T3: 1-run Single past SS off H. dos Santos (R)
• T4: Reached via Error by SS C. Anderson (SB, R)
• T5: 1-run Single past SS off G. Dellenbrant
• T6: 2-RUN HOME RUN TO RF off G. Dellenbrant
• T7: 1-run Single past SS off G. Dellenbrant
• T9: Double to RF off N. Banfield (R)
• TOTAL: 5/7 (2B, HR), 4 R, 6 RBI, SB, 107 GMSC Jensen’s 107 Game Score was the first triple-digit GS by an A.P.B.L. batsman this season, and it was Jensen’s best performance since his five-hit game against Massachusetts Bay on May 25th, 1875.
Through 26 games, Jensen is batting .389 (.953 OPS) with ten Extra-base Hits (7 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR), 29 Runs Batted In (100/90 G), 23 Stolen Bases (80/90 G), 1.3 WAR (4.4/90 G), and is on pace to have his best season since 1873.
The win improved St. Johns’ record to 16-10. They currently sit at 3rd place in the Colonial Conference, three games behind Shamrock. Kings Co. has the same record (16-10), but they are 2nd in the Metropolitan Conference.
