Cards news: Dec. 18 -- 3B Alemeyda acquired from Angels from IF/OF Triabtos and RHP Sheerin
The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired third baseman Luis Almeyda from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for 1B/OF James Triantos and minor-league right-hander Deven Sheerin.
A two-time All-Star, Almeyda hit .250 with 33 home runs and 81 RBIs in 155 games/145 starts for the Angels a year ago.
For his career, since breaking in during the 2027 season, Almeyda has hit .252 with 123 home runs and 324 RBIs in 709 games/686 starts.
Trinatos, 29, had a nice run with the Cardinals since being acquired from the Cubs during the 2028 season.
He batted .315 during the 2031 season and had a career batting mark of .283.
In 2032, Triantos played in 149 games/142 starts, he hit .277 with six home runs and 51 RBIs.
During his time with the Cardinals, over 611 games/568 starts, Triantos his .283 with 28 homers and 188 RBIs.
Acquired in a trade with the Yankees before the 2032 season, Sheerin, 27, got a chance to earn a spot in the St. Louis rotation but struggled going 2-7 with a 4.84 ERA in 20 games/19 starts.
He spent the rest of the season at AAA Memphis, where in 10 games/6 starts he was 0-6 with a 6.35 ERA.
