2022 Year in Review - Tiers 5-6

A lot of teams here that remind me of the original version of the Lokasi baseball pyramid. Seeing Sutineli BC (Ukaulo, KL) pass across my screen especially always gives me a smile. In the original version, Sutineli staged what I would qualify as the greatest single inning of baseball I've ever seen. Playing in the Northern Premier League, and trailing Litsini BC 10-2 in the bottom of the 9th on the season's final day, Sutineli scored 11 runs to win 13-10 and save themselves from relegation in the process.
Oak City Boars are also a welcome sight, deriving their name just as Mighty Oaks did from the nickname of their home city of Aroketsil. In that same original version, OCB were Elite League regulars and the Oaks' biggest local rival, rather than the Spirits as it is now.

At the mouth of the Lon Sifn river, Kolansolo is the traditional home of Lokasi's maritime industry. Kolansolo teams are sometimes grouped with the Mideast leagues due to being further down the coast - in fact, Kolansolo United arrived in this league not via promotion or relegation, but via transfer from Mideast League One a few years ago. Oshotater, home of the also-promoted Rubies, is also in Lon Sifn, but up north near the Chastara border.

Tenshemaho City 1B Kiosho Mutsetsi is a statistical marvel. Despite being a beefy 6'6", his best asset has always been his speed. He played 12 years in the Elite League, split evenly between his hometown Nokir, Tsapna, and Shunna Eagles, and did hit nearly 350 home runs in that time, but during his time with the Eagles in his late 20s he began stealing at an extraordinary rate. Now back in his home city and with his seventh team, Mutsetsi has just achieved something incredible for a 38-year-old first baseman: over 100 steals in a season! 103 to be exact, while being caught 24 times - not a bad ratio at all. And despite having a "wrecked" injury proneness level, he hasn't had a stint on the IL in six years. I wish I could interview this guy.

Due to an injury to the starting backstop,
Lershukeso United 1B Mai Awia was forced behind the plate for 33 games this season. It was quite valiant for him to give it a go, but he was charged with 46 passed balls during those 33 games, the 2nd-most in all of Lokasi organized baseball with the most being a state league team. Across the pyramid, there are about a dozen cases I can find of these long-term emergency catchers, including a much shorter stint for Kepmem's Lofi Wesasoe in the EL, but this one was probably the most disastrous.

Having a pretty tough time finding something interesting to say about this league, if I'm honest. One team really stands out for their sheer mediocrity -
Kuna BC (Kuna, PI) have spent 22 of the last 26 seasons in this league since being promoted here after the 1996 season. They were promoted to Mideast League One once, lasted two seasons, and came back down; they've been relegated to the Central Championship twice, but immediately won promotion both times. Impressive level of averageness - no team has played more games in tier 6 of the pyramid than Kuna has.

Lotiru, LS is a pretty unassuming little city, but in 2022 it was the home of Lokasi's most durable pitcher,
Siteye Aoko. Aoko logged 15 complete games this season, 5 of which were shutouts, and threw 277 innings in total across his 34 starts. That includes one start in which he left during the first inning with an injury - if you remove that game, he averaged over 8 1/3 innings per start for the full season and never logged fewer than 7 innings in a game.

Lokasi has four states that are separated from the mainland: Rupakare to the northwest, Efiro to the southwest, Menmako to the east/southeast, and Rutepiyo to the southeast. Because only the top two tiers of the pyramid are nation-wide, there has never been a time where teams from all four island states played in the same league together, and in 2022, this is the only league that had teams from three island states: Kerawefta from Mamchi, Rutepiyo; BKK Ishiyets from Kiwa Ishiyets in Menmako, and five teams from Efiro, the most they're represented in any non-state league.

Kepits City CF Tsarase Ilie had a pretty remarkable year, being the 2nd-highest WAR accumulator across the pyramid all season with 17.1 wins of value. He mainly hit leadoff for a team iwth a pretty weak bottom of the lineup, so despite hitting 59 homers, he somehow only drove in 80 runs, which doesn't even feel possible. A .325/.434/.669 slash line with good CF defense is quite good no matter how you slice it - this guy should probably be playing at a much higher level than this.
